“How many things I can do without!”
“If a donkey kicks you, do you take legal action against him?” Or: “If a man slaps my face, he does me no evil, only himself.”
“Nothing is to be said in favor of riches and high birth, which are easy roads to evil.”
"There were many things he deplored, but nothing left him depressed."
"Not least, it illustrated the distinction he drew between oratory, which sought to persuade, and philosophy, which sought truth. That Pericles was persuasive was abundantly evident. But was what he said true?"
Is persuasive true? I lime this. People who can make you believe in them, is not whether ehat they say is true, but whether they are persuasive enough
"asking people not to give their answers to a question, but to examine various answers and pick the right one."
"think for themselves,"
"He was a monotheist."
"It is better, he says, to suffer anything, even death, rather than act unjustly."
"whatsoever to any other consideration— even life itself— rather than act unjustly. All that matters, when he acts, is whether his action is just or unjust, the action of a good or an evil man.”
"the theme always being to return evil with good."
But yotube video tell me to return evil with evil
“It is never right to do wrong, or to requite wrong with wrong, or when we suffer evil to defend ourselves by doing evil in return.”
"Your life itself would not be worth living if you can preserve it only by wronging others."
"Greek citizens, especially in Athens, were reluctant to work for another, believing this compromised their independence and amounted to a form of slavery. So slaves"
